BISHKEK: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said Pakistan desires multi-faceted and vibrant ties with Kyrgyzstan for the progress and prosperity of two countries. In a meeting with Kyrgyz President Roza Otenbayeva at her presidential office – White House, the two leaders discussed a whole gamut of issues including bilateral trade, Pak-Kyrgyz strategy on energy and infrastructure, Afghanistan situation, regional and global issues.Prime Minister Gilani outlined Pakistan’s desire to improve bilateral trade with Kyrgyzstan for the benefit of the two nations that also share a commonality of culture and traditions. He noted with satisfaction that Pakistan’s relations with the Central Asian states including Kyrgyzstan were improving.He said the Gwadar deep seaport could serve as a hub of trade for the region and urged the Kyrgyz government to also benefit from such potential. Gilani said the signing of Joint Declaration with the Kyrgyz prime minister Tuesday would lead to enhancement of trade volume through the establishment of Joint Business Council and more cooperation between the private sectors. President Otenbayeva said the two countries would begin a new era of bilateral relations through cooperation in diverse fields. She said Kyrgyzstan was mounting efforts for improvement of communication, transportation and road links with Pakistan for access to international markets via the Gwadar port. She lauded Pakistan’s peace efforts in Afghanistan and its support for the reconstruction of war-ravaged country. Gilani congratulated President Otunbayeva for her sagacious leadership in effectively running a parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan. Other issues pertaining to matters of mutual interests including expansion of bilateral relations came under discussion. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Secretary Defence Lt Gen (retd) Syed Athar Ali and President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries Senator Ghulam Ali, Ambassador Tanvir Akhtar Khaskheli and Schon Group’s Khizar Schon also attended the meeting.

MUSCAT: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday denied any communication gap with India on resolution of core issue of Kashmir and other outstanding issues, but asked it not to hold the dialogue process hostage to the Mumbai incident. This impression should be dispelled that there is lack of communication [between Pakistan and India], Gilani said however pointed at lack of trust, in an interaction with local Omani media at his hotel. Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan desires resumption of dialogue process with India to resolve all outstanding issues and mentioned his talks with his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh during which had asked him that one incident should not be allowed to hold the dialogue process down. The prime minister said the resolution of Kashmir issue was vital for regional stability, adding that Pakistan wished to discuss all core issues including Kashmir, and India too had agreed upon it. About presence of terrorist groups along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Gilani said both the countries realize that they are victims of a common enemy. “We should combat terrorism with a joint strategy. The Nato forces and the Isaf are working in consultation with Pakistan and Afghanistan to jointly combat terrorism.” To a question regarding the issue of terrorism and extremism, Gilani said the government was following the 3Ds policy of dialogue, development and deterrence and was moving in the right direction to curb the menace. He said the terrorists being timid people were hitting the soft targets but had now lost stronghold in the areas. Prime Minister Gilani said his visit to Oman would generate the momentum to reinvigorate the bilateral relations in further expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The prime minister deliberating on the key economic areas discussed with Omani leadership, said a whole gamut of economic cooperation was discussed during his meeting with Sultan Qaboos and the Deputy Prime Minister. He said it was agreed that the two countries would maintain good cooperation in diverse areas including textiles, fishing, education and development in Gwadar. He said his interaction with Minister of External Liaison gave the opportunity to agree on multi-dimensional cooperation in defence and maritime sectors. He said the two sides also agreed to work out feasibility on running a ferry service between Gwadar and Muscat. Gilani said Pakistan and Oman had excellent defence cooperation and efforts were on to materialize an agreement on it. The prime minister about his meeting with Sultan Qaboos said he specifically discussed terrorism and extremism and the role being played by Pakistan as a frontline state in fighting this menace and the sacrifices of its armed forces and civilians. He said the Deputy Prime Minister also agreed to have a regional approach towards terrorism as the issue had no boundaries and should be dealt unitedly.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday expressing his satisfaction over Pakistan’’s longstanding comprehensive strategic partnership with China called for re-doubling of efforts by both sides to take the bilateral relations to the new heights. The prime minister expressed confidence that the new Chinese Ambassador would continue the tradition of the previous Ambassador in further strengthening friendship between the two countries. He assured the Ambassador of his government’’s complete cooperation in pursuing his mission and in supplementing his efforts, in this regard. The prime minister was talking to Liu Jian, the new Chinese Ambassador who called on him at the Prime Minister’’s Secretariat. The prime minister stated that Pakistan deeply valued the contributions of Chinese government and its cooperation for the economic development of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan had always adhered to `One China Policy”. It considers Taiwan as a province of China and regards Tibbet as an inalienable part of China. The prime minister noted that both countries were committed to fight the three evils of terrorism, separatism and extremism and Pakistan had unequivocally condemned the ETIM nefarious activities. He reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to extend its fullest cooperation to China in countering and fighting the ETIM threat, even in the future. The prime minister termed the regular contacts between the two countries at all levels particularly the people to people and youth exchanges as vital for passing on the excellent Pakistan-China ties to the future generations. He was of the view that President Asif Ali Zardari’’s visit to China, next week, would open up new vistas of bilateral cooperation as a number of MoUs and agreements were to be signed by the two sides during that visit. He also reiterated his invitation to the Chinese Premier to visit Pakistan and asked the Chinese Ambassador to convey it to the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao that the government and people of Pakistan were keenly looking forward to welcome him, later this year. Prime Minister Gilani thanked the Chinese government for its prompt action to send its technical team for assessing the damages caused to Karakuram Highway by Ata Abad lake. He hoped that on submission of Chinese team’’s report, both sides will jointly take the required measures to immediately address the problem. Welcoming satisfactory progress in on-going Karakuram Highway upgradation project, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan would also welcome the investment by the Chinese Corporation to develop infrastructure and connectivity projects linking Gwadar to up country and establishment of transportation, communication and oil and gas pipelines corridors. He also hoped that Chinese government would continue assisting Pakistan in the defence field and the on going joint defence production projects would be resolutely pursued. Ambassador Liu Jian conveyed to the Prime Minister, the best wishes of the Prime Minister of China. He termed his appointment as Ambassador of his country to Pakistan as a singular honour and assured the Prime Minister of his determination to work for further strengthening and promotion of bilateral relations between Pakistan and China during his tenure. He expressed the hope that Pakistan will also accord him the same level of cooperation which his predecessors had enjoyed. Ambassador Liu thanked the Prime Minister for GOP’’s measures to provide security to the Chinese nationals in Pakistan and for the continued support to his country against ETIM’’s threat. He termed Pakistan-China friendship as an important factor not only in the peace and stability of both countries but of the region and world at large. The Chinese Ambassador said that he would convey Prime Minister’’s invitation to the Chinese Premier and hoped that Premier Wen Jiabao’’s visit would materialize by the end of this year. The Ambassador conveyed to the prime minister his condolences and commiserations on the loss of precious lives and injuries sustained by the innocent people in the last night’’s terrorist attack in Lahore. On the bilateral cooperation side, the Chinese Ambassador assured the Prime Minister that his government will offer all possible help to Pakistan to overcome the Ata Abad lake problem and for repairs and restoration of the affected sectors of Karakuram Highway. He undertook to build upon the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries during his tenure of duty, in trade, economic, investment, agriculture, defence and cultural fields.

KARACHI: Balochistan Chief Minister, Nawab Aslam Raeesani, along with Commander Coast Vice Admiral Tayyab Ali Dogar and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority visited cyclone affected areas of Gwadar, Pasni and Turbat. An ISPR (Navy) press release issued here said that the Chief Minister, on board PN helicopter, took an aerial view of the cyclone affected areas and reviewed relief operations being undertaken by Pakistan Navy in collaboration with civil administration. Earlier, three Pakistan Navy aircraft carried 1,800 kilograms of medicines, 10 large size de-flooding pumps and 600 chicks (doorway curtains) to Gwadar for the cyclone-affectees. Relief goods are being delivered by PN aircraft and helicopters to the areas which are humanly inaccessible due to rain water. PN Ship Zulfiquar has already reached Gwadar with 55 tonnes of dry ration and relief goods. A PN truck also left here today carrying 4,000 kg relief goods for cyclone-hit creek areas of Sindh. PNS Shahjahan is also on its way carrying relief goods for cyclone affectees. A PN aircraft has also reached Karachi from Gwadar on Tuesday, carrying 18 serious patients for medical treatment at PNS Shifa. The patients include six serious delivery cases. PN Special Services Group team is also undertaking salvage operation of sunken fishing boats at Gwadar and Pasni.
GWADAR: The Balochistan government has declared coastal areas of Gwadar, Jiwani and Pasni ”calamity-hit” areas due to the damage created by “Phet” cyclone. Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani visited the affected areas and said the earlier announced aid was not sufficient and we will ask PM Gilani for more help. He instructed the concerned authorities to assess the volume of loss and start rehabilitation work as soon as possible. CM Balochistan had issued directives to the authorities to utilize all available resources to ensure the aid was provided to the people in the affected areas. The basic necessities of life are scarce since the land route between Gwadar, Jiwani and Pasni and more than 50 other villages has been cut off, and crops have been destroyed due to dams bursting in the adjoining areas of Gwadar.
