Rehman briefs PM on meeting with Altaf

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Monday called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at the PM Secretariat and briefed him on the former’s meeting with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain during his visit to London. On the occasion Prime Minister said that the government was determined to take all necessary measures for the protection of lives and properties of all the citizens of the country. In this context, he added, the government was consulting all the political parties and stakeholders on regular basis so that the nefarious agenda of saboteurs and terrorists could be thwarted. He directed the Interior Minister that coordination among the law enforcement agencies should be further improved to curb the activities of anti-state elements. The overall security situation and steps taken by the law enforcing agencies were also discussed in the meeting.

Malik arrives in Islamabad after London trip

Malik moves to save ruling coalition again

KARACHI: In a bid to calm and keep the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on board, Interior Minister Rehman Malik called on MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain at his London Secretariat on Sunday. The talks between the two continued for more than two hours. MQM Rabita Committee members Mohammed Anwar and Qasim Zia were also present during the meeting. Sources said Altaf Hussain apprised the minister of the MQM’’s reservations while Malik briefed him on the conspiracy to destabilise Pakistan by creating an urban-rural divide in Sindh. The Muttahida leader said different groups were involved in extortion and target killings in Karachi, resulting in an increase in the crime graph. Malik said the government was taking measures to curb crimes and expressed the hope that the coalition between the MQM and the PPP will remain intact in the larger interest of the country. He once again assured Altaf Hussain that the intentions of the PPP were sincere and all genuine demands of the MQM would be accepted. Malik said the MQM is the most reliable coalition partner of the PPP and has stood by it through thick and thin. He said he will apprise President Zardari of all the reservations of the MQM, adding both the parties will collectively foil all the conspiracies being hatched to break the coalition. Malik lauded the vision and ideology of Altaf Hussain and his leadership qualities.

Rehman meets Altaf in London

LONDON: Interior Minister Rehman Malik here on Sunday called on Mutthida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain and discussed the political situation of the country. Muhammad Anwar, Anis Advocate, Tariq Mir and Qasim Ali Raza were present on the occasion. During the meeting that continued for two hours, the two leaders had and exchange of views on the challenges the country is currently faced with. Later, Rehman Malik left for the return journey to Pakistan.

MQM sympathises with victims of violence

KARACHI: Expressing sorrow over the recent wave of violence in Karachi, MQM’’s Chief Altaf Hussain has urged the people to stay calm. In his message from MQM’’s London Secretariat on Friday, Altaf Hussain urged Karachiites to show patience in trying times. MQM chief also directed his party workers to stay calm and face the situation. Meanwhile, denouncing the incidents of violence in Sindh particularly in Karachi, the MQM co-ordination committee kept a close watch on the events that unfolded in the wake of strike call by the ruling PPP. Members of the co-ordination committee in London and Pakistan discussed the latest violence and torture and exchanged views regarding the future line of action. Furthermore they appealed to the people of Sindh to remain alert to protect the province and its capital. (PPI)
