Notification issued for 50% POL prices withdrawal

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Regulation Authority (OGRA) on Friday issued a notification of slashing by 50 per cent the recent increase in prices of petroleum products, following the decision of the government to withdraw the rise in POL prices by 50 per cent Geo News reported. According to the notification, the price of petrol after reduction of Rs3.65 per litre has come down to Rs76.54; price of High Speed Diesel slashed by Rs3.88 to Rs82.21; Light Speed Diesel trimmed by Rs3.30 to Rs69.97; HOBC gets cheaper by Rs4.29 to Rs90.96 and; kerosene oil has reduced to Rs74.45 per litre with a decrease of Rs3.50.

PML-N lacks majority in Punjab: Liaquat

LAHORE: Jamat e Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch Friday said that PML-N lacked majority in Punjab, adding latter would form alliance with unification block to sustain their government in the province. Talking to Geo News here, Liaquat Baloch said that the reconciliation between PPP and PML-N was based on double standards and both parties remained in the government for three years. He blamed both PPP and PML-N for the current situation prevailing in the country. Commenting over decision of PML-N for parting their ways with PPP in Punjab government, Baloch said that the decision would trigger uncertainty in the country. Malik asks PML-N to review its decision

India, Pakistan to resume formal peace talks: report

NEW DELHI: India and Pakistan have agreed to resume peace talks that were broken off by New Delhi after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Indian sources said on Thursday, a step forward in improving ties that impact regional security. The decision was made at this week’’s talks between the two countries” top foreign office officials in Bhutan’’s capital, Thimphu. “The new talks are in effect the formal resumption of the composite dialogue,” a senior Indian government official involved in repairing ties with Pakistan said, referring to a 2004 peace initiative. A Pakistani government official wouldn”t confirm the decision, but said there had been progress. New Delhi suspended a 2004 peace process between the two sides after the attacks in India’’s commercial capital in 2008. Analysts say that with the United States preparing a withdrawal from Afghanistan, the pressure on India and Pakistan to back off from their rivalry is even greater than seeking a settlement over Kashmir.

PM takes Asfandyar into confidence over cabinet reduction

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has started contacts with the coalition partner after the approval of dissolution of Federal Cabinet by PPP’s Central Executive Committee, Geo News reported. Prime Minister telephoned ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali and head of parliamentary group of FATA to take both the leaders into confidence over all decisions including new Federal Cabinet. Sources told Geo News that PM Gilani made first telephone call to Asfandyar. ANP Chief will reply to PM after holding consultations with his party members. Gilani also contacted with the parliamentary head of FATA via telephone and took him into confidence about the decision taken by PPP’s CEC.

PM to dissolve Federal Cabinet soon: Badar

ISLAMABAD: The Central Executive Committee of Pakistan People’s Party Friday reached a decision during its meeting to dissolve the Federal Cabinet. This was announced by Senior PPP leader Jehangir Badar at a news briefing along with PPP Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab after the party’s CEC meeting here. He said Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari has authorized Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to make the decision of dissolving the Federal Cabinet. The Prime Minister will dissolve the Cabinet at the discretion of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and after taking the coalition partners into confidence, he added. “Resignations have been submitted to the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari who would use them as and when required,” Jehangir Badar said. He said Federal Minister for Commerce Amin Fahim was the first to hand over his resignation to the Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari. Jehangir Badar said the CEC meeting was held with an agenda to discuss the challenges being faced by the country with particular reference to the economic condition and war against terrorism. He said all the CEC members reposed confidence in the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and paid tribute to him for all the achievements made during the past three years of PPP-led government. To a question, Jehangir Badar said that the decision to dissolve the Federal Cabinet was not made on the proposal of Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief Nawaz Sharif.
