PM condemns suicide attack on Commandant FC

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the suicide attack in Peshawar on Wednesday in which FC Commandant Sifwat Ghayur along with his bodyguards. It is most deplorable, he said, that when the whole nation, particularly the people of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa are facing worst difficulties because of floods the terrorists have chosen to add to their miseries through such inhuman acts. He ordered the concerned authorities for holding an immediate enquiry into the sad incident and provide best medical facilities tothe injured. The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to the members of the bereaved families. He prayed to Almighty Allah to shower his blessings upon the departed souls and grant strength to the families to bear this immense loss with equanimity.

Rains disrupt train service, traffic system in Karachi

KARACHI: The weather in Karachi turned pleasant on receiving intermittent downpours in various areas of the metropolis while traffic jams and power outages were reported in many parts of the city as rain water caused a number of feeders to trip, Geo News reported Wednesday. Maximum rain, 43 mm, was recorded at Sharea Faisal. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Eban Khan directed the concerned authorities to take necessary steps in the wake of monsoon rains. Rains started this afternoon, totally disrupting the traffic system while many part of the city suffered power outages as, according to KESC spokesman, rain water caused 30 feeders to trip. Train service was also affected as heavy rains lashed the city. According to Met Department’s chief meteorologist Muhammed Riaz, the eastern parts of the city including Clifton, Tariq Road, Nazimabad, Saddar, Gadap Town and Orangi Town began to receive showers. According to Met Department, the recent rain spell will continue intermittently during the next 24 hours. Meantime, power supply in Hub and Hyderabad was suspended. The streams on the RCD Road in Hub started overflowing. The low-lying areas and rain rivers were inundated with downpours couple with gale-force winds in Hub and its suburbs, posing great problems to the local residents. Besides, Hyderabad also received from light to heavy rains, which caused the power supply cut-off. The sweltering weather got more intense with no winds after light rains.

Karachi receives showers; fallouts ensue

KARACHI: The light to heavy showers in various parts of Karachi turned weather pleasant with massive traffic jams being witnessed on most of city roads and power outages in several areas, Geo News reported Wednesday. The maximum rain 43mm was recorded on Shara-e-Faisal. Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan directed the concerned departments to take up immediate steps across the province for rain-emergency. He directed the officials of local governments, the KESC, Hesco, Health Department and other related departments to take up measures to cope with any emergency situation spawned by the lashing rains. Sindh governor urged to ensure the drainage of water from the rain-hit low-lying areas and after reactivating the Healthcare Centers, provision of medicines to them. It should be mentioned here that the spell of pre-monsoonal showers began in Karachi since past two days. The traffic system was disrupted as a result of stormy rains that lashed parts of Karachi this afternoon. Most of areas suffered power outage, as soon as it started to rain. According to the spokesman of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), at least 30 feeders tripped with no tripping of any grid station.

CCPO Lahore admits security lapse causes Data Darbar attack

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif Monday adjourned the hearing of suo motu notice of the suicide attack on Data Darbar till July 9 and directed the concerned authorities to brief the court about the investigations in next hearing. On the other hand, CCPO Lahore admitted that security lapse was the basic reason behind the terror attack at Data Darbar. During hearing of suo motu case, Chief Justice LHC has directed the CCPO Lahore that real culprits should be bring to justice rather than capturing innocent people. In his remarks, Chief Justice said involvement of Black Water in the attack also considered during investigations and court should be informed about the investigations in next hearing.
