KARACHI: The moon for the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal was not sighted, thus, the first day of the month will fall on Saturday (February 5, 2011), Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman announced on Thursday. The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held under the chairmanship of Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman here. The Chairman of the Committee also announced that the 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on February 16, 2011 (Wednesday).
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in a very rare move Thursday announced reversal of the recent notification of 9 percent hike in prices of POL products, Geo News reported. In his speech on the floor of National Assembly, the Prime Minister said: “The prices of petroleum products now stand reverted to the position of October 31, 2010.” He said the meeting of all the Parliamentary leaders held today under his chairmanship reached a unanimous decision to withdraw the recent increase in the prices of POL products. The meeting of Parliamentary leaders was convened after overwhelming pressure of the opposition parties for scrapping the recent increase in prices of POL products. Leader of the Opposition in NA, Chaudhry Nisar, in his speech on the occasion, hailed the government’s decision to scrap the recent POL prices hike. The price of petrol which was increased by Rs6.71 per litre to Rs79.67 now stands reversed to Rs72.96; rate of diesel hiked by Rs4.25 per litre to Rs82.58 reverted to Rs Rs78.33; price of High Octane Blending Content (HOBC) raised by Rs7.79 per litre to Rs94.24 came back to Rs86.67 while the increases in prices of light diesel and kerosene oil by Rs4.36 and Rs4.04 per litre respectively have also been neutralized.
ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for sighting of moon of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak 1431 Hijri will be held on Wednesday (August 11). The committee will meet under the chairmanship of Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman in the building of Pakistan Meteorological Department, Main University Road, Gulshan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.

ISLAMABAD: Various journalist organisations have strongly condemned the Punjab Assembly members for passing the resolution in which media community as a whole has been deceptively targeted by the provincial assembly members and decided to observe a black day on Saturday against the resolution. The participants of a meeting, held at the central secretariat of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Friday, under the chairmanship of its President Pervez Shaukat, unanimously decided to observe a black day across country to condemn the act of the Punjab Assembly against the media that was providing a clear picture of the situation to the masses. Addressing the participants, Pervez Shaukat said the journalists from all over the country rejected the resolution and demanded of the MPAs to take it back. He said they would announce further course of action during a protest to be held in Islamabad.
MURREE: Former chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and MNA Sardar Mehtab Abbasi refused to withdraw his resignation from his seat. During an advisory council meeting held under the chairmanship of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Abbasi was forced to withdraw but he did not do so. The meeting deliberated in detail on the issues like VAT, upcoming budget, petitions against NRO verdict and 18th Amendment. Sardar Mehtab Abbasi was specially invited in the meeting. Abbasi, a key party leader from the Hazara belt has resigned over the renaming of NWFP.
