Traffic Wardons of Lahore, destroying their repute themselves !

Traffic wardons in Lahore are really a blessing for Lahoris, They are very good people and they are managing traffic very well for past years. They help to cross road old/special people and children as well, they speak real nice and gentle ( i have no other experience) But still, there is a very small problem which is destroying repute of these wardons.

These traffic wardon dont’ realize that they are being too strict in 50% literacy rate city. I am very good driver, and i am very proud of the reason that i am one of those people who really follow traffic rules. Last week, i was challaned first time in this year by these traffic wardons, i could see the signal was green and i crossed the road,  on next turn, there was a traffic wardon who stopped me and checked my driving license etc and asked, ‘did u break any rule in previous turn,  i said , offcourse NOT , anyways, he said , when i crossed the road, the signal was red :)

Guess what, it was 4-way turn, there was no reason that i could cross the road while signal was RED ! anyways, it may 1100742364-1have turned red due to rush. Like always, these traffic wardons just don’t listen to you, they will never understand. they will simply write you a challan and then you will have to pay 200-500 RS in their-specified bank ( to find that bank and then submit challan is even a bigger problem).

And it was a long line of people who had been challaned and i counted them, guess what, when i reach there, there were 22 people who were paying challan fee in that bank. Amazingly, there were atleast dozen of people standing in traffic police office to get back documents.

I am not worried about challan fee , because even i was driving a car, and i broke traffic signal ( so called, believe me, i didn’t ) i was only fined 100 PKR, still, i felt sorry for those people. Why these traffic wardons are so strict, they should teach people if they make mistake ,they didn’t know about. Instead, these traffic wardons collect money from poor and then let them bear the pain of submitting challan fee and taking back vehicle documents.

Government should do something, this is a very cheap way of making money, instead of teaching traffic rules and regulations, these traffic wardons are making money by mistakes of poor people who drive motorcycles and 80% of challans are usually paid by these bikers. Traffic wardons is a huge project and so much was expected and so much they are delivering, but one thing is surely missing, they are too strict while fining, they should challan those who commit big mistakes, or serious mistakes and they should issue warning or something FREE to those who commit casual mistakes or not-serious ones.

Traffic wardons must also realize that traffic rules are not just of motocyclists but for car drivers as well and usually these traffic wardons don’t even look at them.
